Issues: Education
Education
The best investment we can make for our future is in our children’s educations. America must lead the world in math, science, reading, and the arts to compete in the new-world economy. Education is one of the most accurate predictors of one’s quality of life, and therefore we must renew our commitment to providing every child with the best education possible. Modernizing classrooms, providing adequate funding to all school districts, and increasing teacher pay will ensure that all children have the opportunity to fulfill their goals. The Federal Government can be a partner in developing our educational system, but overall control of education should remain at the local level.
Fair Testing Standards and Indicators - Accountability for our nations schools needs to be based upon multiple indicators including dropout rates, absenteeism, advanced placement enrollment, and parental involvement. Assessing this information will best allow us to be able to find the areas of improvement that our schools need.
Fully Fund Mandates - Unfunded mandates that are promoted at the federal level put our schools at a disadvantage. I will work to ensure that the funding is in place.
Invest in Teacher Training - Investing in our education begins with recruiting and retaining the most qualified teachers. For children to receive the best education possible we must train and retain our teaching talent.
Targeted Priority Funding for Low-Performing Schools - We cannot leave any child or school behind. We can work with the local level and develop methods to promote progress instead of punishment for not meeting testing standards.
Funding for Affordable Higher Education - A college education should be accessible to every American who wants one. The long-term success of our nation depends on a highly educated workforce. We should provide new avenues to help students afford a college education through grants, scholarships, and low interest loans. We must also look at investing in our leaders of tomorrow who give back to the community. Funding for Pell Grants should be restored.
